When is a good time to list your home for sale?
Dear Phyllis,
My aunt recently passed away and I am her executor. I am planning on having her home painted before selling. When is a good time to list your home for sale?
Linda
Dear Linda,
Before making any improvements to the home, meet with your real estate agent (or home stager). If you are planning on painting, ask them for color recommendations. Although neutral colors are always safe, real estate beige is old news. Have your Realtor or home stager guide you on which improvements will give you the greatest return on your time and money spent. Often, simply removing old, outdated carpeting to expose hardwood floors and removing overdone draperies are big improvements.
After determining which fix-it items should be addressed, you should have ample time to complete them between now and the beginning of next year. If I were your Realtor®, I would likely suggest that your aunt’s home come on the market in February (after Super Bowl) and before everyone else gets their home on the market. Buyers will be out in full force, and you should have less competition.
Best of luck on your sale and feel free to contact me for additional information.
I recently repainted my homes interior. The painter I hired recommended Whisper White as my neutral color. I did go against conventional wisdom and painted two rooms in some eye popping blue. Not practical but it makes me smile
