I don’t know why, but my home garden is plagued by snails. Here are some natural methods to get rid of them:
Use Crushed Eggshells and Coffee Grounds
Utilize natural materials like crushed eggshells and coffee grounds to deter snails in your garden. Their rough texture prevents them from moving around. Eggshells and coffee grounds are compostable and can improve your soil, so you’ll do your garden two favors!
Create easy-to-make beer traps to catch and kill snails. Fill small containers with beer and bury them in the garden, ensuring the rim is at soil level. Snails are attracted to the yeast, fall in, and drown; while a bit grim, it is pretty effective.
Use Well-Draining Soil
Improve your garden’s drainage and allow the soil to dry out thoroughly between waterings to deter snails attracted to moisture. Clear debris and organic matter from your garden to prevent them from finding sanctuary.
Plant snail-repelling plants like ferns, lamb’s ears (Stachys byzantine), or foxgloves (Digitalis) to make your garden less hospitable to snails. Herbs such as rosemary, thyme, lavender, and sage have strong scents that repel them, while vegetables like Swiss chard and kale have a bitter taste that snails avoid. Choose plants that fit your garden and environment for a natural deterrent.
While growing up in the valley my parents had snails all the time. Mom was constantly battling them. Oddly they no longer seem to be an issue. No clue where they went or why they went. I think the eggshell and coffee grounds tip seems like a good one
