When organizing your linen closet to sell, remember it’s a linen closet, not a catch-all. If you need a small toiletry section, keep it contained and orderly.
First things first! Empty the closet; if it needs to be painted, do so now. Make three piles, donate, trash, and keep. When sorted, divide the “keep” pile by items to return to the closet and items to pack. Don’t return old, stained towels and linens; pack or donate them. Extra blankets and pillows, either go on the beds or pack them away for your move. The items in your linen closet should not be worn, stained, or discolored. After you have reorganized, your linen closet should be photo ready.
Keep it simple! Sorting and searching are easier when each room has a designated color. When we moved into our La Canada home, I decided that my bedroom sheets would be yellow, and my daughters would have different colors. The color coding simplified the bed-making process. Place folded sheets in the matching pillowcase. When organizing your linen closet to sell, try to tone down the variety of patterns and colors. I am a Spray ‘N Wash fan and prefer white towels. They can be bleached and kept white.
Scent: While your home is on the market, replace the mothballs with fresh lavender. They sell it at our La Canada Farmers Market. You can buy it every week if necessary.
To many home buyers, a linen closet is a luxury on their wish list. If you need baskets, bins, or organizers to keep items contained and orderly, invest in them.
Well thanks for a tip in your blog that I had never thought of! Putting the sheets inside the pillow case. Fabulous.
