I sell a lot of homes for people who have lived in them for years. We have lived in our current home for twenty years and the amount of stuff we have is frightening. Most of us struggle with some degree of clutter whether it’s file management or an overstuffed closet. According to the National Association of Professional Organizers we only wear 20% of the clothes we own, while we keep the remaining 80% just in case.
Here are my top four organizing tips:
*25% of adults say they pay bills late because they lost them. I keep all of my bills in a file pouch. When I kept bills in my inbox, I sometimes overlooked them or misplaced them.
*In a kid’s room, put a basketball hoop over a laundry basket for slam-dunking dirty clothes.
*I use over the door shoe organizers for gift wrapping accessories (ribbons, bows, scissors, etc.) I use another for over-the-counter medicine and bathroom items (toothpaste, brushes, cough drops etc.) because they are clear so it’s very easy to find what you are looking for. I hung another in the linen closet near the guest bedroom. This is where I keep all of those hotel shampoos, lotions, creams etc. that for some reason I can’t leave behind.
